While the common ones we're well aware of, there are a few tips out there (and we don't know how many!) that are probably too obvious to draw our attention. Yet, these are small factors that can make or break your plans to create a dwelling that's safe in every way. Curious? Well, then here we go...
And Here Are Some More Safety Tips...1. Install non-slip pads in your bathtub and on the bathroom floor to prevent slipping. This is essential if you have an elderly member staying with you.
2. Doormats, carpets and rugs should have non-slip surfaces underneath to prevent slipping.
3. Never leave your main door unlocked, even if it is for a "little while".
4. Keep the bushes in your garden well-trimmed to prevent potential intruders from hiding behind them!
5. The stairways should be well-lit to prevent accidents.
6. Chalk out a fire escape plan for the entire family, and practice it on a regular basis. Make your kids aware of the emergency exits in your building.
7. Always keep a fire extinguisher at an easily accessible location.
8. Never leave candles burning when you're going out or going off to sleep.
9. While in the kitchen, always put on your pair of oven mittens before using the microwave oven.
10. Test the temperature of hot water yourself before allowing your child to touch it.
11. Never leave electrical appliances plugged on to power sockets. Unplug them once you're done.
12. Refrain your little ones from playing in the kitchen.
13. Write down the Poison Control hotline number (1-800-222-1222) on a piece of paper and place it next to your phone. Also, save the number in your cell phone and ask all the members of your family to do the same.
14. Check your toddler's toys carefully for small parts that are potential choking hazards. Also, make sure there are no small objects scattered on the floor.
15. Make a note of all emergency numbers and place it next to the phone.
16. Purchase a first-aid kit and update it on a regular basis.
17. If you have kids in the house, make it a point to install baby gates at the top and bottom of the staircase.
